Overview

This program offers a unique opportunity to visit the historical viaduct while trekking to the ancient kingdom of Hsipaw. Live like the locals and ride local transportation such as Tuk Tuk, electric bikes, and horse carts to minimize carbon footprint in your travels.

DAY 01

Arrival Mandalay & visit Mandalay

Meet with our guide / representative, transfer to hotel and check in.
Then visit Mandalay by Tuk Tuk including visit to Mahamuni Buddha Image – one of the most sacred Buddha Images in Myanmar. Continue visiting of traditional handicraft workshops such as, marble carving, gold leaves beating, Kuthodaw Pagoda – the world biggest book, Shwenandaw (Golden Palace) Monastery – the finest of wood carving, etc. Finally enjoy the sunset on the top of Mandalay Hill where we can admire the beauty of Mandalay City, Shan Plateau, etc. Come back to hotel and leisure. Overnight in Mandalay.

DAY 02

Excursion Amarapura , Ava and Sagaing

Drive to Amarapura (01:00 hour), an ancient capital of Myanmar, where we can observe the life of over 1000 monks at Mahagandaryon Monastery & silk weaving factory. And then proceed to Sagaing, where we can observe the fascinating landscapes of the Ayeyarwaddy River from serene Sagaing Hil, the place of over 700 monasteries, Kaungmudaw Pagoda-the magnificent dome shape, silverware factory, etc. Continue to Ava (Inwa) and visit by horse carts to Maenu Okkyaung Monastery – built by the chief queen in 1818, Nan Myint Tower – 27 meter masonry high, Bargayar Monastery -well known for its wood carving with 267 teak pillars. Come back to Amarpaura and enjoy the sunset by crossing over U Bein Bridge. Overnight in Mandalay.

DAY 03

Mandalay – Pyin Oo Lwin

Drive to Pyin Oo Lwin, a former British hill station. On arrival, check in to hotel and then start full day trip by traditional horse carriage to the local market, nearby plantations and villages, visit to the 90 years old beautiful Botanical Garden Kandawgyi. Then proceed by car to Pwe Kauk waterfall & Paik Chin Myaung Cave Temple and etc. Overnight in Pyin Oo Lwin .

DAY 04

Pyin Oo Lwin – Goke Htaik Viaduct– Hsipaw

Drive to a small town Naung Cho to catch the train to pass the Goteik Viaduct, 300-meter deep high in Shan Mountains which was built in 1899 by American company Pennsylvania and Maryland Bridge Construction. It was the 2nd tallest Viaduct in the world. Upon arrival to Hsipaw, transfer to hotel and check in. In the evening walking around Hsipaw if time permits. Overnight in Hsipaw.

DAY 05

Boat excursion and visiting Shan Village in Hsipaw

The river passing through Hsipaw town is called the Dokthawaddy River and transfer to jetty to enjoy a boat ride up the river through amazing scenery of mountains, plantations along the river and general village life in this interesting part of Myanmar.
We get out of the boat for an hour walk to visit a 150 years old Shan monastery in the forest. Visit the river confluence and on the way back in the direction of Hsipaw we visit a charming traditional Shan village. A half day guided excursion that will give you an insight in Shan life.
Then back to Hsipaw and leisure. Overnight in Hsipaw.

DAY 06

Hsipaw – Mandalay

Drive back to Mandalay and on the way visit to Baw Gyo pagoda.
Along the way you will have photo stop at Kyauk Mae at Goke Twin valley where you will have the chance again to take picture of Goke Htaik Viaduct.
After 6 hours driving, you will reach to Mandalay, check in at hotel and leisure.
Overnight in Mandalay.

DAY 07

Mandalay-Mt.Popa (240 km, 5/6 hours)-Bagan (50 km, 2 hours)

Drive to Mt.Popa-an extinct volcano which is known as “Home of the Spirits” and observe the life of rural area on the way such as producing the palm sweets. We may stop at several places for making the photos and knowing the countryside. Climb up 777 steps to reach of top of Mt.Popa cliff temple and enjoy the landscapes, the panoramic view of extinct volcan and the plain to Bagan. Come down and proceed to Bagan. Check in at the hotel and leisure. Overnight in Bagan.

DAY 08

Full day visit in Bagan

Visit by Tuk Tuk to colorful local market, Shwezigon Pagoda-the glory of Bagan, Htilominlo Temple-the best pilaster carving, Nathtaukkyaung – monastery made of teak wood, Ananda Temple-the masterpiece of Bagan, Gubyaukgyi Temple-the best mural paintings of 11th century, Manuha Temple-huge Buddha Images, Dhamayangyi Temple-the biggest temple in Bagan, Sulamani Temple-the 12th century temple, lacquerware workshop-the unique of Bagan, etc. Finally, enjoy the sunset on the top of the temple. Overnight in Bagan.

DAY 09

Experience the village life by excursion to A Nauk Ohn Village near Bagan

Start the journey of experience the village life by excursion to A Nauk Ohn Village, outskirt of Bagan and stopping at toddy palm tree forest on route. After driving 20 mins from Bagan, there’s small valley which is appearing by mountain ranges of Tu Yin Taung. Then pick up by ox-cart by villagers at the valley and enjoying ox-cart ride to the village. Along the route, explore the scenery of dry zone, farms and also passing through forest of eucalyptuses is impressive.
Upon arrival A Nauk Ohn Village, welcome by villagers and visit in the village. It is charming village and mostly are farmers and cultivating of Peanut, Sesame, Bean, Seasonal crops, etc,.
Explore their daily life and visiting their home in the village and chatting with them. Visit workshop of fried bean which is distributing as whole sales to other regions.
Visit school if we meet school time. Lunch in the village.
Then take OX-Cart to the pagoda of the village which is located on the hill and walk up to the pagoda. Enjoy marvelous and panoramic view of surrounding. Back to the village by ox-cart and finally drive back to Bagan. Upon arrival Bagan, transfer to hotel and free. Overnight in Bagan.

DAY 10

Bagan-Kalaw (200 km, 8/9 hours)

Drive to Kalaw and on the way enjoying scenery of tropical area. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and leisure. Overnight in Kalaw.

DAY 11

Drive to Pindaya (45 km, 01:30 hours) & visit. Continue to Inle (97 km, 02:30 hours)

Drive to Pindaya and enjoy the marvelous landscapes of hilly region with vegetables plantation, terrace landing cultivation, etc. visit the Pindaya Caves – houses 8094 Buddha Images, umbrella workshop, which is made of pulp. Drive to Inle. Check in at the hotel and leisure. Overnight at Inle lake.

DAY 12

Visit Inle lake

Visit to the local market, Lotus – petal robe & silk weaving looms at Inn Paw Khone village, Phaungdaw Oo Pagoda – the most venerable pagoda on the lake, jumping cats’ monastery, floating garden & floating villages, etc. Overnight at Inle Lake.

DAY 13

Inle – Heho – Yangon

Transfer to Heho airport and flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel and check in.
Walking tour starts with Colonial Area as the city featuring the faded colonial architecture of the old post office, Pansodan Street with Colonial architecture Building and walk up to the Pansodan Bridge to make good photos of colonial area and bustling street. Continue walk to High Court and Mahabandoola Garden including the Independence Monument along the way and Sule Pagoda, heart of City Center. Then visit Chauk-htet-kyi Pagoda; to see life like Reclining Buddha Image in guest-receiving position with Buddhist Monasteries around the Temple. In the evening, visit to the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda; one of the wonders in the world and noted for its religious significance and artistic beauty. Enjoy the sun-set from the Great Temple. Offer the Planetary Post which belongs to your Birthday with water, flowers, candle lights, and incense sticks. Then back to Yangon and leisure. Overnight in Yangon.

DAY 14

Departure

Transfer to International Airport for departure.

Remarks

  • During the green season which is from July to September, there might be walking difficulties sometimes with the trekking in Hsipaw. The program and the routes of the Hsipaw trekking are subject to change without prior notice.
  • Can be done throughout the year [Best season for Hsipaw trekking- October to June]
