Pakse
It is the laid-back, bustling capital of Champasak Province in southern Laos, located at the confluence of the Mekong and Xe Don rivers. As a primary hub, it serves as the gateway to the Bolaven Plateau’s waterfalls, coffee plantations, and the ancient Wat Phou ruins, featuring French colonial architecture, a lively market, and a mix of ethnic cultures.
Pakse is the starting point for the popular “Bolaven Loop,” a motorbike circuit known for breathtaking waterfalls, coffee farms, and mountain scenery.
The city features the Champasak Historical Heritage Museum, Wat Luang temple, and nearby ruins of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Wat Phou.
It is known for its relaxed pace, scenic riverfront, and French colonial-era buildings in the old quarter.
It is often used by tourists as a base to explore the “Four Thousand Islands” (Si Phan Don) further south and the surrounding natural wonders
