Luang Prabang
It is the former royal capital of Laos and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. Often described as the “jewel of Indochina,” it is renowned for its tranquil atmosphere and exceptionally preserved blend of traditional Lao and French colonial architecture.
The town features over 30 Buddhist temples, including the 16th-century Wat Xieng Thong, characterized by sweeping roofs and intricate gold stenciling. These stand alongside 19th-century European colonial brick buildings.
A central aspect of daily life is the morning alms-giving ceremony, where hundreds of saffron-robed monks walk through the streets to collect food from local residents at dawn.
Kuang Si Waterfalls and the Pak Ou Caves, which house thousands of Buddha statues are the highlights of Luang Prabang.
