The newly upgraded Anisakhan Airport in Pyin Oo Lwin officially reopened on 11 July 2026, strengthening air connectivity to this charming hill town in Mandalay Region.

The modernized airport features a new two-storey terminal and improved facilities, with capacity for up to 1,000 passengers per day and larger aircraft, including the Boeing 737-800.

Regular domestic flights are scheduled four days a week — Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, connecting Pyin Oo Lwin with destinations including Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Heho and Tachileik.

With improved accessibility, Pyin Oo Lwin is now even easier to include in tailor-made Myanmar itineraries, offering travelers a convenient gateway to explore its colonial heritage, botanical gardens and scenic mountain surroundings.

New DEMU Service Connects Yangon and Pyay

A new DEMU train service between Yangon and Pyay officially began on 31 July 2026, offering travelers a faster and more comfortable way to experience the countryside and discover the historic city of Pyay.

The service takes approximately 6 hours each way, with the train departing Yangon at 5:30 am and returning from Pyay at 1:00 pm.

This new rail connection provides an attractive option for travelers looking to explore Pyay and the ancient Sri Ksetra heritage site as part of their Myanmar journey.

Trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake – An Authentic Shan Experience

Step away from the usual tourist trails and discover the rural beauty and local way of life between Kalaw and Inle Lake. Trek through peaceful villages, rolling farmland and scenic mountain paths, with an overnight stay in Myat Saytaman Traditional House.

Starting from Kalaw, the trail leads through scenic countryside and local villages to Pat Tu Bauk, where you will experience warm local hospitality and spend the night in a Traditional House Myat Saytaman.

The following day, continue trekking through Kyauk Su, Nang Roke and Tone Lei, enjoying picturesque landscapes and panoramic views of the Nyaung Shwe Plain and Inle Lake. The adventure concludes with a relaxing private boat ride across Inle Lake to your hotel.

Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival – A Spectacular Celebration on Inle Lake

12–29 October 2026 | Inle Lake, Shan State

Experience one of Myanmar’s most vibrant cultural and religious celebrations during the 18-day Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival.

Four sacred Buddha images are carried on a beautifully decorated royal barge, which travels around Inle Lake and visits local villages. The procession is accompanied by traditional Intha leg-rowers, hundreds of boats, cultural performances and exciting traditional boat races.

This unique festival offers travelers a wonderful opportunity to witness Myanmar’s living Buddhist traditions and the distinctive culture of the Intha people in the spectacular setting of Inle Lake.
